I began my career as a writer, producer and broadcast reporter for a Gannett-owned TV station in my hometown of Macon, GA. (Which, as fate would have it, was one of the most watched local news stations in the country. Who knew?) The magic is that my work there was anything but traditional.
I was one of the first in the country to lead the digital innovation and integration push at that level. I soon took over responsibility for the station's website and began working with the Community and Sales teams, in addition the Newsroom, viewing it all as information that helps people live better lives. The early success, the challenges, the "how does this help real people?" focus and the pace definitely set the tone for the kind of work that followed.
As a journalist and marketing strategist, I've worked with a range of companies (from Bed, Bath & Beyond and The Home Depot to direct-selling companies, digital start-ups and furniture manufacturers) to create story-based campaigns and creative content that fulfills their business objectives and connects with audiences across all channels of media.
My tactics include: interviews, research and information-gathering, editorial direction, content strategy and editorial calendars.
