You know how lots of hairstylists choose really simple hairstyles for themselves, and clothing designers tend to opt for all-black attire? I, as someone who's obsessed with color, patterns, and (lately) maximalism, have always preferred simple white walls, with hardly any art or even photographs. A clean respite for my cluttered mind, maybe?
The good news is that, even if you're a weirdo like me, you can still surround yourself with more of the colors and textures you love by using wallpaper in small, sparing ways. A "small ideas = big impact" kind of thing. Joanna Gaines, the domestic doyenne behind all things Magnolia Home, reminds us of this here (as part of her new line of wallpaper):
I love the idea of lining a bookshelf with the paper.
Another good idea: the tried-and-true accent wall, courtesy of Domino magazine.
And also! Stair steps with style on a whole 'nother level.
